Berlin Wall / UPFEST project 2015

Description

In 2014/15 I conceived, designed and ran the Berlin Wall / UPFEST project as a means of commemorating the 25th anniversaries of the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification; the project received generous financial support from Routes into Languages South West and Bristol Widening Participation. I worked with ten state secondary schools in Bristol, all of whom were asked to produce two designs for 'what I would have painted on the Berlin Wall'. These were displayed as a mini-Berlin Wall at the South Bristol street art festival, UPFEST, where they were seen by a large international audience (visitor numbers to UPFEST that year were estimated at ca. 25,000). Our final panel was painted live at the event by Thierry Noir, one of the first artists to paint on the Berlin Wall itself.
