Dr. Yokomatsu and Katsu Goda discussed how to collaborate on research topics related to ‘economical assessment and optimisation of disaster mitigation measures, such as insurance’. We are currently working on the ‘dynamic programming/optimisation of insurer’s risk management decisions under catastrophic earthquakes’. During the Dr. Yokomatsu’s visit, several meetings with people from the Cabot Institute (Professor Paul Bates, Dr. Philippa Baily, and Dr. Susanna Jenkins) were also arranged to exchange the research ideas. As problems we tackle are relevant to other natural hazards (e.g. flood and volcano), the research outcome (e.g. framework and computer algorithm) can be applied to other hazard areas.
