Description
The purpose of this 1st Bristol -Kyoto Symposium was to develop new relationships, to move existing collaborations to a deeper understanding and to build new collaborative research opportunities and activities. From 9th – 11th January 2013 we hosted over 90 delegates from Kyoto, probably the largest single contingent of overseas researchers from one institution to ever visit the UK. Greeting them were more than 150 Bristol academics, research and professional staff, research students, research funders and sponsors, partners from the public and private sectors The symposium consisted of opening and closing plenary sessions and 13 parallel workshops including: Organic/Inorganic Chemistry, Nano-technology and Stem Cell Biology, Novel Quantum Phases of Condensed Matter, Energy, Design and Robotics, Retinal Imaging/Translational Research, Risk and Natural Hazards, Mathematics, Academic-Industry Partnerships, Psychology, Faculty of Arts, Economics, Social Science and Law. Plans for future engagement were developed out these workshops, ranging from grant proposals, researcher exchanges, workshops and on-going collaborative research. Both universities believe that this landmark event was a tremendous success, with many academics keen to develop further their collaborative activities with their counterparts. Work has already started on developing what will be the 2nd Bristol-Kyoto symposium, to be hosted in Kyoto in 2014. The symposium was supported by an EPSRC grant and additional funding from University of Bristol and Kyoto University.Period | 9 Jan 2013 → 11 Jan 2013 |
