'Challenge and Opportunity in Furthering British-German Understanding'

Description

This conference was organised by the British German Association and Bristol-Hannover Council as part of the 70th anniversary celebrations of the Bristol-Hannover link. It included participants from the UK and Germany, and was an opportunity for representatives of Twinning Associations to discuss the challenges posed by furthering Anglo-German understanding especially in the post-Brexit-referendum era. The session I co-led enabled me to showcase some of the innovative schools outreach work done by the Bristol German department to encourage take-up of German in local schools, particularly the Berlin Wall / Upfest project (2015), as well as my current involvement with the 'In Someone Else's Shoes' project, which has been set up specifically to celebrate the Bristol / Hannover anniversary.
