BGER - Motion of bubbles in tubes filled with liquid
Collaborative visits of Dr Christov and Prof Stone from Princeton. We have developed a new description for the motion of bubbles in tubes filled with liquid. Previous theory predicted that bubbles above a critical size would fail to rise, and thus be stuck in the tube forever. Our new approach points out that bubbles will continue to rise, albeit at a slow rate. The speed of rise could be an elegant experimental
measurement of intermolecular forces, which are otherwise difficult to determine.
