Description

Leeds logic seminar talk: evasion of large cardinals

The evasion number e is a cardinal characteristic of the continuum formulated by Blass in the context of questions motivated by group theory. After giving a survey of the basic theory surrounding e, I spoke about recent joint work with Jörg Brendle considering the generalisation of e from ω to higher cardinals. In particular, we can show that if κ is a strongly unfoldable cardinal, there is a model of set theory in which e defined for κ is strictly greater than b defined for κ.
