In conversation with RAs Twelve in-conversation events with Royal Academicians, held in 12 different locations across 12 months. DESCRIPTION Manchester Art Gallery is delighted to welcome acclaimed artist and Royal Academician Chantal Joffe who will be in-conversation with art historian and curator Dorothy Price. Joffe creates monumental yet intimate paintings, primarily of women that she has a personal or emotional connection with. She depicts family, friends, writers and other creatives, either painting from life or photographs and her extensive body of work includes unflinching self-portraits which document her role as a woman, artist and mother. Joffe and Price recently embarked on a journey to discover more about pioneering 19th century German painter Paula Modersohn-Becker, one of the first female artists to paint a naked self-portrait. The journey resulted in a major exhibition Personal Feeling is the Main Thing, which took place at The Lowry earlier this year. They will discuss Joffe’s career, approach to painting and the depiction of women in art.
