Description

I organised a workshop entitled '(Re)constructing Childhood in Post-War Germany' at the University of Bristol, at which Dr Beate Mueller (Newcastle University), Dr Ute Woelfel (University of Reading),and I all gave papers to an audience from the Bristol SML and other invited participants with an interest in cultural constructions of childhood. My own paper was entitled: '"Initially I really just wanted to write a report about what actually happened" (Ilse Aichinger): constructions of childhood in post-war German literature.' This event was a preliminary exploration of the topic prior to our joint application for British Academy / Leverhulme funding for a project on 'Children in German War (Con)Texts 1945-1949.
