Description

Prof Faul and Dr Chigome met in China at an international external evaluation at Donghua University, Shanghai, China. It became evident that there was not only a shared mutual interest in developing novel functional materials for environmental applications, but also a shared desire to develop stronger links between Africa, African researchers, and researchers in the UK. Areas of specific interest are SDGs 6 and 7 (clean water & sanitation, clean & affordable energy) and the GCRF’s “Equitable Access to Sustainable Development”. These aspirations also fit with well with activities within the Cabot Institut’s “water” and “low carbon energy” research themes. Encouraged by the networking opportunities presented by the African Materials Research Society (AMRS, of which Dr Chigome is the Secretary), Prof. Faul recently launched the Bristol Chapter of AMRS.
This visit by Dr Chigome to Bristol has strengthened the partnership and has acted to ensure wider uptake and engagement, with further interactions planned with the Bristol's new Centre for Africa Research and Partnerships.
