I mentored a group of 4 MA students through the process of organizing an international / national half-day pgr conference and a multidisciplinary sleep studies conference. As part of this, the students worked with a pgr student from Kyoto in the week of the conference and seminar. This allowed him (via briefings and written summaries) to understand the nature and preparations of the (student-organised) conference. It also gave him the opportunity of delivering a conference paper abroad. Offering such a scholarship to a Kyoto pgr helped to develop the academic relationship between departments. It is hoped Kyoto will hold a similar event.
