Victor Hugo: A Monumental Life (Part of the Guernsey Literary Festival)

Activity: Talk or presentation typesFestival, exhibition, performance

Description

Victor Hugo expert Bradley Stephens talks about his biography, published in 2019, on one of the world’s great writers, Victor Hugo, who took refuge in Guernsey for 15 years and completed Les Misérables here. In the newly renovated museum of Hugo's exile home, Hauteville House, Stephens argues that Hugo’s creative intellectual vigour suggests he was too restless to sit comfortably on the pedestal of literary greatness, and that his mind was as revolutionary as the time in which he lived.
