Digitised Customs Account records relating to the Port of Bristol, August, c.1477
Transcription and translation, on an EXCEL spreadsheet, of the Exchequer ‘particular’ Controller's account for Bristol covering August - 2 September 1477, based on TNA, E122/19/18. The spreadsheet is accompanied by a 5,500 word introduction (pdf), which discusses the dating of the document, the Controller (Thomas Asshe) and the politics of his appointment. There is also some discussion of what the fragment reveals about Bristol's trade at the time as well as the usual information about editorial practices adopted in the transcription of the account.
