Centre for Knowledge, Culture and Society

Organisational unit: Research Grouping

Organisation profile

This interdisciplinary centre is concerned with understanding the changing landscape of knowledge production, circulation and use in contemporary society and its implications for socially just and sustainable futures. We conduct research that examines:

  • How knowledge is being produced in institutions that are diverse and proliferating – from global think tanks such as OECD to community organisations alongside universities and commercial research institutes;
  • How learning is taking place in uneven social spaces – from homes, to schools, from online communities to workplaces - creating difficulties in navigating which kinds of knowledge matter most, where;
  • How the modes by which knowledge is circulating locally and globally are changing and the implications of this for the nature of knowledge and our relationship to knowledge.
