Organisation profile

The Department of Economics at Bristol has a distinctive focus: we aim to combine advances in economic theory, structural modelling and econometrics with innovative research in public policy. We have a strong record of high-quality research, and also of wider impact in areas such as education and health.

The quality of the department's research has been evident in the most recent research assessments. In REF 2014, the Department was ranked sixth in the UK, with a high proportion of its activity in the top category. In the previous assessment, RAE 2008, the Department was ranked joint sixth in the UK. Recent or forthcoming publications include papers in the American Economic Review, Econometrica, Economic Journal, International Economic Review, Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of the European Economic Association, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Public Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, Review of Economic Studies, and Nature.
