Organization profile

Organisation profile

As a relatively small department, our research work is quite focused, in areas such as organizational innovation, gender, social relationships and sustainability. There is a particular emphasis on practice and policy in the public and not-for-profit sectors. We also have strong methodological expertise in quantitative methods as well as in innovative qualitative approaches which are a key part of the one research centre in the department, ARCIO (Action Research and Critical Inquiry in Organization). Our work and staff are developing an increasing international reputation and attract funding from bodies such as the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and British Academy.

Staff publish regularly in leading academic journals in organization studies, management science and operations such as Human Relations, Organization Studies, Gender, Work and Organization, International Journal of Production Research, Marketing Science and Omega. They are also represented on the editorial boards of such journals and engaged in international research networks and conferences. The Department has a strong research culture with a good record of collaborative work, visiting speakers, cross-faculty research initiatives and a supportive atmosphere for both staff and PhD students. Research also informs our teaching at all levels and is reflected in our engagement with outside bodies.

Academics within the department undertake high quality research across a range of Management related topics:
