Organisation profile

We have one of the most active and extensive research profiles in the University, concentrating in four main research areas:

  • Solid Mechanics
  • Ultrasonics and non-destructive testing
  • Dynamics and Control
  • Design and Process Engineering

Our research quality was highly ranked in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise.

The Department received an 'Excellent' rating in the Teaching Quality Assessment (TQA) and consistently appears at or near the top of national surveys and league tables.
