The School of Management (SoM) strives for international excellence and relevance in all aspects of its research, impact and knowledge transfer and engagement. The School has grown considerably in recent times but it still aims to maintain a distinctive identity, underpinned by an interdisciplinary social sciences approach while strengthening its position within the business, management and organisation field. Its social science setting and ethos, and embedded civic values aim to deliver positive benefits to society. SoM seeks to be critical, reflective, evidence-informed, and ultimately progressive and transformative in its understanding of management and organisations, markets, technology, people and processes, governance, work, and public policy.
Current research and scholarship is focused on the following five inter-disciplinary research themes and one methodologically-oriented group, ARCIO (Action Research and Critical Inquiry in Organization).
(I) Sustainable Production, Inclusivity, Consumption and Economy (SPICE)
(II) Innovation & Digitalisation;
(III) Public Services Governance & Management;
(IV) Global Political Economy;
(V) Work Futures;
SoM relies on the expertise and initiative of its staff to foster and enhance its international reputation in research quality and impact profile in management and organisation-focused social sciences disciplines and wider stakeholder communities across the private, public and third sectors. It aims to provide a research environment that is supportive, inclusive and safeguards all research activities undertaken by staff, allowing individual and collective initiatives to achieve their full potential in terms of quality, relevance, and scholarship.
