Research interests

My research interests are concerned with exploring the biophysical basis of the EEG alpha rhythm as well as investigating its functional role in perceptual and cognitive processes. I find this field of research compelling because the alpha rhythm constitutes one of the most global and dominant signatures of brain activity, and yet many of its basic attributes remain untested and its significance poorly understood. Utilising both normal EEG and intra-cranial recording, I hope to clarify certain basic questions about how alpha functions at a local level and to use this to inform more focused hypotheses on information transfer and perceptual processing.
