My research interests are spread between constiutional history, national identities, and patronage in the Late Middle Ages. My current research particularly focusses on English national identity in the reign of Richard II, exploring its impact on diplomatic relations with France and the papal court, the internal politics of the Plantagenet Empire, and the ultimate deposition of the king in 1399. I am especially interested in utilising the scholarship around nationalist idelogy to enhance our understanding of late fourteenth century political culture in England.
