In my PhD I use a combination of experiments, fieldwork and modelling to investigate Pyroclastic Density Current-ice interactions. My research aims to quantify both melt and vapour production, and the effects of an altered frictional regime at the boundary when PDCs propagate over frozen substrates. The quantifications of these microphysical processes will be developed into sub-grid laws that will be incoporated into surface flow hazard modelling tools.
