My research is currently focusing on Cope's rule - the trend towards large body over evolutionary time in extinct taxa - and how it impacts function in the giant theropod theropod dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus and Spinosaurus. To better understand function in these dinosaurs, I utilize CT/surface scanning methods to generate 3D models of their skulls; these 3D models can then be tested for their biomechanical properties via the finite element method. I am also interested in how skull shape may influence function in these dinosaurs; here I employ the geometric morphometrics approach by plotting coordinates on the skull models.
