Personal profile

Research interests

My research is in three main areas: late Medieval literature, culture and religion; poetry and poetics (particularly contemporary elegy, lyric and sonnets), and Medical Humanities (focusing on grief and bereavement, ageing and end of life, and HIV/AIDS).

Current projects include:
An edited collection for Boydell and Brewer (together with Hetta Howes and Ayoush Lazikani): A Companion to Medieval Devotional Literature

Reception of the Old Testament Song of Songs in medieval English literature and culture, with a focus on lyric poetry, anchoritic texts, and space and place.

The Domestic Spaces of HIV/AIDS in literature and visual culture from 1980s to the present:  representations of people with HIV/AIDS through the significance of domestic space, including the interactions between domestic and medicalized space, gardens and other cultivated outdoor spaces, and conceptualizations of ‘family’.
