Research interests

My research focuses on vector biology, the ecology and evolution of host parasites interactions, and life history theory. One of my main interest is in carry over effects, namely the evolutionary consequences of early life environment and maternal investments, on vector behaviour and vector competence.

I take part in a BBSRC project where my focus is on ecological and evolutionary modeling of maternal investments in tsetse flies and how that may impact vector competence and epidemiological modeling of Human and Animal African Trypanosomiasis while integrating vector biology. My main approach is here theoretical using data from field and laboratory work done in collaboration with colleagues in Zimbabwe, and Liverpool (LSTM). The modeling is also done in collaboration with colleagues at the University Of Oxford, the University of Warwick and the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa.

I have worked previously on the malaria system, from ecology & evolution of mosquito immunity (PhD), to combining evolutionary & applied ecology to improve malaria control (postdoc) in the Eave tubes project with field work in West Africa, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
