Personal profile

Research interests

My Sociology PhD project examines intergenerational and transnational Bengali cultural identity, migration and long-distance nationalism in Britain, as a product of histories of separation and reunification in the region. Accordingly, my research interests are aligned with studies of nationalism, migration, and memory, and include ethnic politics, food, and cultural studies.

I have increasingly centred South Asian histories, people and politics within my work to explore and deconstruct, through an intersectional lens, the legacies of colonialism, nation making and unmaking, and migration within macro-level national histories and micro-level personal stories.

I have previously conducted extended research on racialised masculinity and Western media representation, and heritage language and belonging, and have examined the relationship between Bollywood and neo-imperialism in the marginalisation of indigenous ethnic groups in Northeastern India. Alongside my academic work, I have also written short articles and blogs for organisations on topics such as migration and national identity in everyday life, and the gendered realm of the kitchen in cis-heteronormative spaces.
