I specialise in all aspects of Digital Law and Regulation. In particular, I am interested in the legal and regulatory implications of modern digital technologies including social media, cloud computing, Internet of Things and machine learning. A core theme in work, approached from empirical and multi-disciplinary perspectives, is how digital innovative and disruptive digital environments can be effectively regulated.
My work focuses on the broad range of data privacy law issues raised by key and often overlapping dimensions of the data-driven economy including automated decision-making, profiling, ad tech, facial recognition technology, 'Big Data' analytics, opaque and multi-actor processing chains, connected ecosystems and responsible and lawful data stewardship). This insludes exploring how the tensions between competing interests and rights can be sustainably addressed in innovative and privacy protective ecosystems.
I also examine explore other digital legal issues including copyright enforcement and the tensions between competing digital legal rights, such as privacy, freedom of expression and defamation.
