Personal profile

Research interests

I am a NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer at the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (University of Bristol), while undertaking Paediatric Rheumatology subspecialty training at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

I am interested in exploring how we can design better treatments for autoimmune conditions through understanding the origin and function of immune cells residing in primary tissue that undergo inflammation during disease. I became fascinated by the function of kidney macrophages for their diverse role in maintaining tissue health and significant involvement in autoimmune disease, whilst studying for a PhD (Versus Arthritis Clinical Research Fellowship) in the laboratories of Professor Tracy Hussell and Professor Rachel Lennon.

My research investigates how immune cells in tissue are maintained during health and the pathways that lead to resolution after inflammation. A specific focus of my research is paediatric uveitis, a chronic sight-threatening eye disease affecting a third of children and adolescents with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), which is difficult to diagnose and challenging to treat.

My current research in paediatric uveitis is funded by grants from NIHR CRN Children/Versus Arthritis Paediatric Clinical Studies Group, FAIR UK and the British Society of Rheumatology (BSR).
