Personal profile

Research interests

I am a microbial bioinformatician and epidemiologist who has mostly worked with microbial sequence data originating from individuals in a primary care setting (the community). I have experience of working with human saliva and stool samples for the extraction of microbes to identify bacterial biomarkers of susceptibility to respiratory infection.

I have also written systematic review papers including meta-analyses.  I have considerable molecular biology experience in clinical infectious diseases and environmental microbiology. I am interested in antimicrobial resistance topics.

Research Interests:

  1. Antimicrobial resistance
  2. Microbial analysis
  3. Resistome
  4. Biomarkers of disease susceptibility
  5. Urinary tract infection
  6. Respiratory tract infection
  7. Airborne microbes

Current Research Projects:

  • Bacterial analysis of gut and urine microbes from adults with recurrent urinary tract infections.
  • Impact of policy change on antibiotic prescriptions and bacterial resistance for urinary tract infections and pyelonephritis.
  • Airborne microbes in care homes.
  • Respiratory tract infection susceptibility in individuals from the community.
