Dr. Daniel D’Andrea is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) with expertise in the interdisciplinary fields of bioinformatics, functional genomics, and computational biology. He holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Naples Federico II and a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from Sapienza University of Rome, completed within the Ph.D. program in Biology and Molecular Medicine.
Dr. D’Andrea specializes in applying bioinformatics approaches to analyse complex data in the biological and biomedical domains. He has extensive experience with cutting-edge techniques, including bulk and single-cell high-throughput next-generation sequencing, multiomics data integration, translational medicine, and targeted therapies.
In recent years, he has involved in multiple projects focused on integrating heterogeneous multiomics datasets. His contributions include identifying a novel target linking inflammation with metabolism in colon cancer, developing bioinformatics strategies to support clinical trial progression of a first-in-class inhibitor for haematological malignancies, and pinpointing potential molecular targets for therapeutic intervention in schizophrenia.
Before joining the University of Bristol, Dr. D’Andrea was a Lecturer in Bioinformatics at Nottingham Trent University, where he was responsible for both research and teaching in the interdisciplinary areas of bioinformatics, data science, and functional genomics. He also worked as a Senior Research Associate at the MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics at Cardiff University for 3 years and as a Research Associate at Imperial College London for 5 years.
