Personal profile

Research interests

My research project focuses on the Granadian artist Ismael G. de la Serna (1895 – 1968), a painter who migrated to Paris during the Interwar period, and who was associated to influential critics, dealers and artists.

I hold that his formative period spent in Granada and Madrid – a scarcely researched period – needs to be re-assessed, to understand the socioeconomic constraints he experienced and encouraged him to move to Paris.

My research project focuses on the role played by dealers and critics on his successful career by studying the transnational networks that supported him in the late 1920s, and how those networks contributed to the internationalisation of his career.

Finally, I research the influence Interwar period art trends had on his painting and on how political and economic instability and violence during the 1930s and early 1940s affected his supporting networks.
