Miss Emma Frazer

Funded by the SWWDTP, my research explores the impact of playing football on women's lives, and how their experiences are affected by their positions in society. It illustrates how football empowers women off the pitch, and demonstrates why it is empowering within the cultural context. The data was collected during eight months of participant ethnographic fieldwork in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, in which I played football with thirteen different women's teams, conducted two dozen interviews and had more than 200 players complete my questionnaire.

Over the course of my PhD, I have gained two years of teaching experience for the unit City Futures: Migration, Citizenship, and Planetary Change, and have also been the course representative for PGRs. Furthermore, I have been the Submissions Manager and the Proof-Reader for the student-run journal, Question.

Prior to the PhD, I received a distinction in my MA in Latin American Studies (conducted in Spanish) at the University of Barcelona, and my BA in Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Bristol. I also have several years of varied work experience beyond academia.
