Research interests

The work of my research is to understand the catalytic activity and biological function in heme containing enzymes. Heme is the prosthetic group found in a number of biologically important proteins (from haemoglobin to catalases) which have a diverse range of biological functions including electron transfer, transportation of gases and chemical catalysis. Our work is focused in three main areas: peroxidases, dioxygenases and the role of heme in the cell. We use kinetic and spectroscopic methods to understand the mechanism and function of heme enzymes, and we collaborate with structural biologists (Prof Peter Moody, University of Leicester) to provide a structural framework for our experiments.
