Research interests

Giles works on ancient philosophy (especially Plato and Aristotle), metaethics, ethics, and the philosophy of mind. His published work thus far has primarily focused on Aristotle's moral philosophy and philosophical psychology. He is also interested in aesthetics and certain topics in metaphysics. He has published two books: a monograph, Aristotle on Desire, with Cambridge University Press (2012), and an edited book (co-edited with Michael Pakaluk), Moral Psychology and Human Action in Aristotle, with Oxford University Press (2011). He is currently at work on a third, on Aristotle on the emotions.

Giles teaches undergraduate courses on Plato, Aristotle, metaethics and aesthetics. At the graduate level, he regularly teaches an MA course on value theory, and supervises PhD dissertations on metaethics. He is also available to supervise dissertations on ancient philosophy.
