Research interests

I am an epidemiologist funded by the Medical Research Council and Alcohol Research UK. My projects are on substance abuse in children, adolescents and adults in the UK (Children of the 90's Study formerly ALSPAC) and in India (Consortium on Vulnerability to Externalising Disorders and Addictions (cVEDA)).

My previous research was on the prevalence of self-reported pain and osteoarthritis in the general population (Arthritis Research UK) and in retired professional footballers (FIFA). This project (2013-2018) submitted the scientific evidence required by the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council to regard knee osteoarthritis as an occupational hazard of professional football in the UK.

My wider research interests include influencing public health policy initiatives; cohort studies that identify risk factors for non-communicable diseases and the impact of early childhood adversity on health outcomes using longitudinal epidemiological methods.
