Research interests

I am a behavioural ecologist interested in understanding the origins and evolutionary implications of inter-individual differences in behaviour, and the drivers of phenotypic divergence.

I have had the opportunity to work on a range of study systems - including birds, lizards and fish - using both experimental and field approaches. My doctoral research, under the supervision of Prof. Tobias Uller (Lund University) and Dr. Geoff While (University of Tasmania), investigated the consequences of asymmetries in male competitive ability and divergent secondary sexual characters for hybridization and introgression between two lineages of the common wall lizard.

In my current position as a NERC-funded postdoc with Assoc. Prof. Christos Ioannou I am exploring how feedback between inter-individual differences in behaviour, hunger, and knowledge, influence social and collective behaviour in shoaling fish, using Trinidadian guppies and three-spined sticklebacks as model systems.
