Personal profile

Research interests

My main research interest is in identifying variation in DNA methylation that is associated with type 2 diabetes and related traits, with a focus on groups of people who are at higher risk of disease in later life. Cohorts I work with include Southall And Brent Revisited (SABRE) and the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents And Children (ALSPAC), where I am focussing analyses on individuals of South Asian origin and women with gestational diabetes. I am also investigating if DNA methylation can be used as a predictor of future disease and using genetic proxies to distinguish causal pathways from non-causal biomarkers. In laboratory analyses, I am validating findings from array based studies and conducting in vitro analyses to strengthen causal inference.
