I am currently researching the representation of magical objects in medieval romance, from a queer perspective. My research is interested in the ways in which magical objects open up new possibilities for subjective experience through the blend of marvellous spectacle, transformation, and grounded materiality within the context of the romance narrative. My thesis will explore medieval ideas of magic, objects, and the body to determine the role that magical objects play in the subversion of dominant hierarchies of gender and sexuality in the Middle Ages.
