I study sea ice thickness changes in Baffin Bay using satellite altimetry. Baffin Bay is a vital component of the Western Arctic climate. Baffin Bay is part of the marginal ice zone, with sea ice coverage in winter but ice-free conditions in summer. Recent research has shown that there have been asymmetrical changes in sea ice thickness in the bay, with sea ice thinning in the west and thickening in the east. My project extends this research by looking at multiple datasets. I study the possible implications of dramatical asymmetrical changes for the local climate and the freshwater budget in the bay.
