Research interests

Bristol doctoral researcher at looking at student mental health and wellbeing. A project commissioned and funded by the University of Bristol in 2018 using mental health survey data to track prevalence of common mental health disorders, wellbeing, and help-seeking behaviour in the student population. The work is a timely opportunity to evaluate a new ‘whole university’ non-clinical support framework (a pastoral advisory service) in a sector where there is limited research evidence for what kind of support really works for students. It’s a mixed methods approach, using cross-sectional surveys, secondary data of prescribing and counselling trends, focus groups and interviews, and snapshot census surveys.

Jacks is part of several Bristol research groups: The Centre for Academic Mental Health, Bristol’s Suicide and Self Harm research group, and the Behavioural Genetics research group.
She is a member of SMaRteN, a national research network funded by UK Research and Innovation, led by King's College London, focusing on student mental health in higher education.
