Personal profile

Research interests

My research focuses on antifascist women writers and modernist magazine culture. I am particularly interested in how 1930s women writers used periodicals as a space in which to critique fascism, while contending with challenges posed to these critiques by the patriarchal tendencies of male editors and publishers. My thesis will be structured by case studies of three interwar women writers: Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Townsend Warner and Storm Jameson. Through these studies, I hope to explore the role of modernist experimentation in political writing by women, as well as exploring 1930s issues such as pacifism, propaganda and the relationship between aesthetics and politics.
