Personal profile

Research interests

I am a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow based in the Department of Translational Health Sciences in Bristol Medical School. A PhD graduate of the University of Bristol, I conducted my postdoctoral studies at Imperial College London, supported by fellowship awards from Arthritis Research UK (2015-2018) and the MRC (2018-2021). In this time, I was awarded the President's Medal for Excellence in Education in recognition of my contribution to student supervision and wellbeing.

My research group (www.TheArmstrongGroup.co.uk) develops new biotechnologies for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. We use a diverse range of methods from engineering, chemistry, and biology to control the assembly of biomaterials and engineered tissues, including cartilage, bone, cardiac, skeletal muscle, and neural tissue. Collaborating with international leaders and local clinicians, we aim to develop new regenerative therapies and generate advanced biological models for studying development, disease, and drug response.

Note that the publication list below is largely incomplete. For a full list of research articles and reviews - including works in Advanced Materials, Nature Communications, Science Advances, and Science Translational Medicine - please see Google Scholar. If you are interested in joining my research group, please contact me at [email protected] to discuss open and upcoming vacancies, PhD scholarships, or postdoctoral fellowships.
