Evaluating pain associated with osteoarthritis in dogs

We are presently working on a 3 year BBSRC funded study evaluating pain in client owned dogs affected by spontaneous osteoarthritis, using clinical assessment, owner completed metrology instruments, neurophysiological techniques and quantitative sensory testing.

In Spring/summer 2016 we will be beginning a therapeutic trial of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation in dogs with osteoarthritis.

Biography

I qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 1998 and began work in mixed practice. I quickly developed an interest in the management of animal pain and registered for the RCVS certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia, which I gained in 2004. I 2011 I was given a welcome opportunity to undertake a masters degree in anaesthesia at the University of Bristol, supervised by Drs. Slingsby and Murrell.
