Research interests

Dr Jiang’s research focuses on both the theory and application of ‘dynamics and control'. By replacing the traditional spring-damper suspension system with a general mechanism, the performance of mechanical systems (e.g. noise and vibration reduction, stability improvement) can be improved via passive or (semi-) active controllers.

For example, using advanced passive control method, the suspension design problem can be divided into two sub-problems:

  • Identify a suitable positive-real controller transfer function (immittance) to achieve the desired suspension performance;
  • Design of a physical network mechanism either mechanically or electrically to synthesis such transfer function.

The research undertaken by Dr. Jiang is driven by both industrial needs and scientific curiosities, and spans a wide range of disciplines including dynamic analysis, mechanics, network synthesis, as well as optimisation & design. He and his team are making use of numerical, analytical, experimental tools to solve challenging dynamics & vibration problems in multiple industrial sectors, such as automotive, aerospace, railway engineering and civil engineering. He is also intreseted in relavent research topics, including nonlinear vibration, mechatronic devices, dynamic analysis and control strategy for linear and nonlinear systems.

Dr Jiang is interested in supervising PhD students in relevant topics.
