Personal profile

Research interests

I am a psychologist and much of my research has focused on the importance of positive social connections. I have carried out research exploring visible differencesocial interactions and connectivity with young people and have researched how older people’s social connectivity can be supported within communities to reduce loneliness.

My research also focuses on the methods and ethics of co-producing research with communities outside of the university. I am interested in how to engage with, support and train community researchers and how new knowledge is produced through collaborative research. Between 2019 and 2021 I worked on the SPAN: a hands-on history project, a collaborative research project that aimed to research and share the history of Single Parent Action Network (www.thespanproject.org.uk).

Much of my work has drawn on creative and arts-based research methods and I have collaborated with writers, actors, illustrators, visual artists and directors to develop research outputs with communities.
