Personal profile

Research interests

Deep-time Evolution Lab

I reconstruct the distant past of major evolutionary events using genome-scale data. I am integrating evidence from disparate sources to infer the animal phylogeny and develop a timescale to date their origin and processes such as the colonisation of land.

My research experience is mostly based in the study of animal’s origin and their evolution. I am interested in the evolutionary processes that lead to developmental changes and hence biodiversity generation along animal history. So far, I studied the origin of metamorphosis, which allowed insects conquering the air, and the terrestrialisation process of arthropods, which allowed them to radiate on land generating most of the current biodiversity.
