The insights into paleoclimatic changes can be obtained from quantitative reconstructions of precipitation, air temperature and other environmental variables based on the analyses of different proxies. The brGDGTs-based proxies, CBT and MBT, are used to reconstruct soil pH and paleotemperature as the membrane lipids are widespread in soils, lake sediments and peat bogs. However, there are some issues and constraints on the application of MBT/CBT proxies to terrestrial environments. My project is focused on investigating the potential of brGDGTs for climate interpretation from terrestrial archives.
