Personal profile

Research interests

I am a cultural and historical geographer and spatial theorist with a longstanding interest in landscape as an experiential, visual and literary framework, and organising concept/trope in geography.

My early work sought to offer new accounts of landscape, subjectivity and experience for geographers in terms of embodiment, phenomenology, materiality and performance. I subsequently extended this focus to engage with issues of memory, spectrality and dislocation in landscape experience and writing. In recent years, I have explored relations between landscape, identity and belonging via conceptual essays, textual encounters and practice-led collaborations with creative practitioners.
