Biography
Dr Jonathan Gibb is a speciality registrar in general adult psychiatry. Jonathan completed undergraduate medical training at the University of St Andrews (BSc Hons) and the University of Manchester (MBChB with Honours and Distinction). He undertook further postgraduate training in epidemiology (MSc with Distinction) at The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine while completing core psychiatry training (supported by a NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship) at the University of Bristol. He is an honorary member of the Centre for Academic Mental Health (University of Bristol) and supports the MB ChB Medicine programme as a professional mentor.
Research interests
Jonathan’s research focusses on the epidemiology and treatment of depression in people living with a chronic physical illness. He is particularly interested in improving the care of people affected by both cancer and depression. Through support of a Wellcome-funded doctoral training fellowship (King's PhD Programme in Mental Health Research for Health Professionals), he is undertaking a PhD in psycho-oncology working between the cancer epidemiology centre and IoPPN at King’s College London.
Advisory roles
Jonathan is the deputy chair of the UK Medical Academic Staff Committee (British Medical Association) and had previously chaired the committee responsible for clinical academic training. He is a member of the RCPsych international congress advisory board, Student Minds clinical advisory group, and represents academic trainees at the University of Bristol on the school board. He previously was a member of council at the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management.
