Joshua Bell is a life course epidemiologist. As a Research Fellow in the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit, he investigates modifiable causes of non-communicable diseases, with a focus on obesity, health behaviours, cardiometabolic diseases, and cancers. This involves analysing large-scale life course data including from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children, and working to improve causal inference in observational settings through the triangulation of evidence from genetic and non-genetic approaches.
He regularly supervises PhD and MSc projects and leads on several teaching activities within Bristol Medical School including cardiovascular disease for the MSc Epidemiology and triangulation for the Mendelian randomization short course. He is an editorial board member for the journal Communications Medicine.
