Research interests

I am interested in communication and social behaviour in cetaceans. For my PhD research, I am studying the acoustic and movement behaviour of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) in Cardigan Bay, Wales. I am using individually distinctive vocalisations (signature whistles) to determine the space-use of individual dolphins in relation to two Special Areas of Conservation (SACs). I will also investigate the potential drivers of space-use over time, including social networks, prey availability and anthropogenic noise.

My previous research used passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) to detect and track cetaceans around tidal turbines.
