Research interests

I am a lecturer in modern history. My research interests lie in the history of modern Britain with a particular focus on the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.  I am especially interested in political, intellectual and labour history and have published work in these areas. My book, Anti-Socialism in Britain, 1900-1940, is currently under contract at Manchester University Press. I am also currently working on a new project examining the role of emotion in strikes and labour disputes, and have developed an interest in the historical origins of managerialism and audit culture.
